She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Gladys Cox and her brother, James Cox.
Ruth Quinn was born on November 29, 1937 in Hickory Grove, SC where her parents taught school. They moved to Green Sea, SC and Marion, NC before settling in Earl, NC. Ruth Quinn graduated as Valedictorian from Number Three High School and attended nurses training at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She worked at Shelby Hospital while writing daily letters to her future husband while he was in the service, Joe Bandy Stewart, who survives her.
She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and love for her wonderful husband, four sons (Todd, Kevin, Craig and Eric), a daughter Andrea, and daughter-in-laws, Amy and Katie. She also cherished her grandchildren, who loved their “Nana”: Miranda Ryan, Leo and Logan. Ruth Quinn was a role model of cheerfulness, hard work, and service to her brother Gene Cox, sister Betsy Burkett and her niece and nephews, Sarah Burkett, Joe Burkett, Brent Cox and Michael Cox.
Ruth Quinn created a loving Christian home where she loved to welcome family and friends. She was a great cook, gardener and seamstress. Ruth Quinn was greatly admired, and she will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm Friday, April 26, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with a memorial service to begin at 12:00 pm. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
