

Sharon "Shari" Lee Brown McKissick passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025. She was born on April 17, 1968, at Travis Air Force Base in California to Maj. Perry Walker Brown and Janie Oates Brown. Shari’s life was marked by love, faith, strength, and a deep devotion to her family, church, and community.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard (Rick) McKissick, and their two children, Richard (Richie) McKissick and Rachel Powell (Austin Powell).
Shari attended Irmo High School before transferring to Sloan High School, where she graduated in 1986. During high school, she shined in the spotlight, placing second in Sloan’s beauty pageant and later earning the title of Junior Miss South Carolina.
She went on to earn an associate degree in psychology from Midlands Technical College and began her professional life as a flight attendant with Air South Airlines and US Airways. Later, she transitioned into the mortgage and construction industries, serving as Director of Federal Compliance at Citizens Mortgage Funding and as Business Office Manager at Bouknight Builders.
After becoming a mother, Shari devoted herself to raising her children and being a loving, full-time mom. She was active in her church, organizing charitable efforts such as "Cell Phones for Soldiers" and "Cell Phones for Sistercare," bringing hope and connection to deployed military personnel and women in need.
Following her cancer diagnosis, Shari became a beloved volunteer at the South Carolina Oncology Association (SCOA), where she offered encouragement, prayers, and companionship to countless patients. She was a steadfast advocate and source of strength to many during their own battles with illness.
A faithful member of Chapin Christian Community Church, Shari lived each day with deep devotion to God. Her joy, compassion, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of everyone she met, whether in her church, her work, her community at SCOA, or her Publix family.
Shari's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the power of faith. Her legacy will be cherished forever.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin, SC 29036, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home – Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC 29063.
