Virginia Poole Jacobs

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Virginia Poole Jacobs, 101, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited from 6:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Mrs. Jacobs died Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Born in Pemaquid, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Chester Wells Poole and Alice Prentice Poole. The wife of the late Richard H. Jacobs, she was the youngest of six children. After living in Portland, Maine for 50 years, where she served as a secretary for the United Way, she along with her husband moved to SC in 1988. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. She was a counter for the church and served on the bereavement committee, as well as a member of the Joy Club. One of her favorite hobbies was making rosaries to be given to hospital patients. Surviving are her sons, Richard Kenneth Jacobs (Marlena Ann) of Solana Beach, CA and Robert Howard Jacobs (Debbie) of Lakeville, ME; daughter and caregiver for the last 12 years, Cynthia Sawyer-Smith of Columbia; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
