Alvie W. Dungy, Jr.

Life-long resident of Jackson, MI, born September 9, 1922, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen (Green) Dungy; three sisters, Janet Smith, Darlene Hughes, Toni Dungy; two brothers, Kenneth and Darrow Dungy. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvie Dungy, Sr. and mother, Fanchion; sisters, Oveda Fowler and Mildred Owens. Alvie was blessed with four children, Alvie III (Jackie), Beverly Hurd (Gene), Bruce (Cathy), and Kevin; seven grandchildren, Adrian Hurd, Latisha Hurd, Shawn Hurd, Aaron Dungy (Jessica), Jennifer Dungy, Alissa Dungy, and Bayley Dungy; two great-grandchildren, McKenna Dungy and Breanna Sheppard. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alvie retired in 1986 from Jackson Community College after 20 years of dedicated service as Supervisor of Campus Services. He was an avid sports fan, gardener, fisherman, and do-it-yourself expert. Funeral services will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E. Prospect St., on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Visitation and Family Hour will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery immediately following the service. The family has respectfully requested, in lieu of flowers, donations or cards of condolences be directed to Berean Bible Baptist Church, P.O. Box 543, Jackson, MI 49204, where Alvie served as a Senior Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. A special thanks to Great Lakes Hospice for their compassionate care of our loved one!
