
Of Jackson, MI passed away at Allegiance Hospice Home on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the age of 93. Alvin was born on December 10, 1918 in Jackson, MI to Peter and Mary Wegrzyn. He attended East Jackson High School, where he was referred to as “the most talented catcher” in Jackson County. Alvin served in the United States Army, including being stationed in Okinawa during WWII, where he attained the rank of First Sergeant, also being stationed in Watertown, New York where he met Clara Bandy, later to be his wife. Alvin worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber before and after being in the Army, retiring after 37 years of service. He is survived by his daughter; Sally Vainner, daughter-in-law Barbara Vainner; grandchildren; Peter (Nicohle) Vainner, Lyndsay Vainner, Ben (Lindsey) Vainner, great granddaughters; Sophia, McKenna Vainner, Lorraine Hessling, sister, Jennie Pluto, sister-in-law Tessie Wegeryn. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Clara of 57 years, son; Michael, siblings; Louie (Maxine) Vainner, Eddie Wegrzyn, Joe (Jean) Vainner, Rose (Bernard) Kirven. A celebration of Alvin’s life will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Arbor woods Assisted Living (2100 Springport Rd. Jackson, MI.) at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Allegiance Hospice Home 2150 Kingsbrook Dr. Jackson, MI 49202. Alvin’s family would like to thank the staff at Arbor Woods Assisted Living, Allegiance Hospice and Allegiance Hospice Home for their love and support.
