Bernice Owens

Of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the age of 81 while under the care of the Jackson County Medical Care Facility. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Owens. She is survived by her nine children: Erma (Robert) Futrell, Lettie (Fredrick) Williams, Paula (Mike) Rowlader-Golliff, Jenny (Andrew) Cooper, Gary Owens, Dorothy (Michael) Glassford, James (Susan) Owens, Marie (John) Bailey, and Robert (Katie) Owens; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. Bernie was born on August 18, 1934 in Whitesburg, KY; one of seven children born to Robert and Lucinda (Taylor) Sexton. She and Oakley relocated to Jackson for work when they were younger and stayed to raise their family. Bernie was a strong, proud, hardworking family woman. She was employed until she was 73. She touched the hearts and lives of many and will be greatly missed. A service celebrating her life will be held at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service for visitation.
