Dorothy A. Gibson

Dorothy Gibson passed away on Thurs. March 21, 2013, at the age of 97 at Jackson County Medical Care Facility. She was surrounded by many family members, all of whom loved her dearly. Dorothy was born November 8th, 1915 in Jackson Michigan. She was the daughter of John Downey and Josephine Pool. She married George Boley and they had five children: Marjorie, George Jr., Katherine, Kenneth and Josephine.

Dorothy married Ralph Gibson in 1954, he passed away in 1967. Dorothy was preceded in death by her children, Marjorie in infancy; Josephine in childhood and both George Jr. and Kenneth in recent years. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Katherine Schichtel (David) of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, Beverly Boley of Jackson and thirteen grandchildren, William Boley (LeeAnn), Jamie Poling (David), Randy, JoAnn Corts (Timothy), Josephine (Joie) Christiansen (Paul), Timothy Shepherd (Celeste), Julie DuLac, (Mark), Matt Shepherd (Kristen), Robin London, Scott Boley (Stacy), Kimberley Phelps (Christopher), Christopher, and Mike Boley (Ode). Dorothy is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren all of whom loved her dearly.

Despite contracting a childhood illness that left her profoundly deaf throughout her life and also being a single mother, she was able to feed and clothe her three children without public assistance. A life time of hard work made this possible as she would not accept handouts.

Dorothy's love of family and her work ethic was passed down to her children and is alive today in how her grandchildren and great grandchildren live their lives. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice and the Jackson County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care Dorothy received. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Saturday March 30, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Private burial Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation Saturday 1:00 P.M. until service time.
