Was called to her eternal home in late September 2014. She died peacefully at her home in Jackson. Dorothy was born on June 7, 1915 in Bay City; the only child of Herman and Eva Schultz. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bay City. Her mother and father preceded her in death and there are no living family members. Dorothy was laid to rest on October 2, 2014 at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan. Rev. Eric Ekong, Dorothy’s pastor, officiated in graveside ceremonies. Presently, plans for a local memorial service for Dorothy are incomplete. Dorothy grew up in rural Bay County; attending parochial schools through high school. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Michigan. She taught in high schools in the Bay City area and taught at the Hadley Junior College in Lapeer. Dorothy joined the Staff of Jackson Community College in September 1947 as an instructor in Chemistry. She served for seven of her thirty two years at JCC as head of the Department of Chemistry. During her career at the College, Dorothy was one of the most resourceful and prestigious staff members in the school’s history. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jackson since 1956, serving that community and her Lord for nearly sixty years. She was a member of the Cotta Missionary Guild, was a Bible study leader, supported Trinity Lutheran School, contributed to a number of global Christian Missionary organizations, and faithfully attended worship services on a regular weekly basis. She was recognized in 2010 by the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod as the outstanding example of Lay Stewardship service to the church in Michigan. In recent years, when age and failing health affected her mobility, Dorothy still taught weekly Bible studies until a month before her passing. Dorothy will be remembered as a strong symbol of Christian strength and charity, a kind, generous, caring, devoted friend and a true disciple of Christ.
