Eugene B. Hoover Sr.

Of Grass Lake, MI passed away on February 6, 2014 at the age of 79. Gene was born on January 12, 1935 to parents Clyde D. and Ruby L. Hoover in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He met the love of his life Laura Joann Lewis. They were married in Angola, Indiana on February 25, 1957, spending 41 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 1998. He worked as an Industrial Hydraulics Journeyman for Ford Motor Company. Gene was a Jehovah Witness, Past President and a member of the Jackson County Sportsman Club, loved skeet and trap shooting, silhouette shooting, traveling for competitive shooting and hunting, gun repair and making special hunting loads, aka “Hoover Express”. He loved spending time at Schupbach’s Sporting Goods, Life member of the NRA and North American Hunting Club, past member of IHMSA, Varmint Hunters Assoc. Inc., and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was an avid car racing fan/driver and past member of the Jackson Corvette Club. Gene is survived by his children; Eugene B. (Beth) Hoover Jr. of Leslie, MI, Laura S. “Sue” Hoover of Jackson, MI, grandsons; Matthew D. (Cathie) Schultz of Jackson, MI, Eugene B. (Brittany) Hoover III of Eaton Rapids, great grandchildren; Lauren, Brianna, Ryker, Ryland, Bristol, step-granddaughters; Carrie and Kimber Seegraves of Lansing MI, siblings; Douglas H. (Marlys) Hoover of Ypsilanti, Lucille I. (Tom) Rogers of Littleton CO., a host of cousins, nieces , nephews and several great nieces and nephews, dear family friend Kimberly J. Mills who was such a blessing of love , help and support. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Malcom Estep, wife, Laura Joann “Jo”, brother, Clyde D. Hoover Jr. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 6:30pm at the funeral home with visitation from 3:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Jackson Country Sportsman Club Memorial (500 Mantel Ave., Jackson, MI 49202) for Gene and Joann’s many years of dedication to the club or the National Rifle Assoc.,(11250 Waples Mill Rd., Fairfax, VA 22030).
