

Freemon Martin, born on August 14, 1933, in Philips County Elaine, Arkansas, passed away at the age of 92 on December 15, 2025, in Greenville, Michigan. He was the beloved son of Ethel Jones Martin and James Martin. Freemon was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 53 years, Gracie Martin, who passed on June 29, 2009.
Freemon is survived by his sister, Stannie Thomas; his three daughters, Patricia Necole Martinnabavi, Alfreeda Martin Ross (Kevin Beavers), and Robin Nicole Bremby (Brian Punches); and his special daughter-in-law, Janet Martin. He was cherished by his honorary family members, Jerry Ross and Randy Bremby. He leaves behind a legacy through his grandchildren: Ahmad Ameen, Patrick Nabavi, Omar Martin, Steven Ross, Stephany Ross, Nicholas Martin, Michael Martin, Anteneah Bremby, Ariah Bremby, and special granddaughters Kaylie Feenstra and Kendra Dowds. His great-grandchildren include Aliyah Ameen, Amasia Ameen, Acareylle Ameen, Ahmad Ameen Jr., Ahzien Ameen, Artist Martin, Luna Martin, Ahkyren Ameen, Asj’mere Ameen, Jaden Nabavi, and Grayson Nabavi. Freemon also leaves behind special nephews and nieces: Marvin Martin, Dennis Martin, Grace Gregg, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of wonderful friends.
Freemon was preceded in death by his sons Randy Michael Martin and Ricky Martin; his parents, James and Ethel Martin; his brothers, David Martin (Dorothy), Stanford Martin (Sue), and Roosevelt Martin (Christine); and his sisters, Cecil Carruth (Henry), James Lois Turner (Willie), and Modena (Ron).
Freemon was a dedicated member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church and belonged to the Jackson Chapter of the NAACP. He had a passion for farming, gardening, driving tractors, and growing vegetables, particularly known for his greens and watermelons. He enjoyed hunting small game, fishing, and raising pigs, sharing his bounty with friends and family.
Freemon worked at Harvard Industry, formerly Hayes Albion, for 43 years until its closure in 2002. He also ran his own garbage business, Martin’s Hauling, for 52 years, involving his family in the business. Known for his sociable nature, Freemon never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He cherished his time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, supporting them in their various activities.
After moving to Greenville, Freemon made many special friends at The Clay Street Center, a supportive environment for adults with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The family invites donations to be made to The Clay Street Center in his memory,

Visitation will be held at Burden-Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home, located at 1806 East Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI 49202, on December 22, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Family Hour will take place at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 304 E Prospect St, Jackson, MI 49203, on December 23, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Going Home Service from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Committal Service will be held at Woodland Cemetery, 2615 Francis St, Jackson, MI 49203, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Reverend Darius Williams will officiate the services, and interment will take place at Chapel Woodland Cemetery.
Freemon Martin will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
