

Of Jackson, Michigan passed away on March 21, 2013 with his family by his side, at the age of 90. Gaylord was born on December 29, 1922 in Belding, Michigan to Harold and Harriet Ohlerich. He married the love of his life Helen (Lewis) Ohlerich on August 23, 1945 in Charleston, SC. They were married for 66 years until her death in 2011. Gaylord graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1941, and received an athletic scholarship, which he turned down in order to join the Marines. He was a corporal in World War II, serving in Company B 2nd Amphibian Trac Tank Battalion from 1942 – 1945. He served as a rural carrier and postmaster of Rives Junction, retiring in 1977. He also was a long-time member of Trinity and Redeemer Lutheran Church’s. Gaylord loved bowling and was a member of NARFE. He is survived by his children Gaylord Jr. (Sally), Linda (Dennis) Curey, Pamela (Timothy) Murphy, and Carla Ohlerich; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, two sisters and four brothers and will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Jack Fugate officiating. Family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. He will be laid to rest next to Helen at Tompkins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 29 or the John George Home.
