

Of Jackson, passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the age of 87. The 10th of 11 children, she was born to Amiel and Lora Heinz in Dansville, Michigan on August 31, 1936. Hilda married Robert McCollum on May 27, 1966, in Jackson. Hilda was a hard worker from an early age and had a long career as a social services worker for the State of Michigan until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of JaxNaz church for over 60 years, serving on the board, leading or supporting numerous programs and ministries, always volunteering behind the scenes in some capacity, and working in the church office part-time for a few years in retirement. Hilda enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, with her love of collecting continuing on to Pokémon cards and beanie babies as she doted on her grandchildren. She loved to travel, taking road trips with her boys when they were younger, and then traveling with friends, coworkers and on church excursions and mission trips, including travel to Israel. In retirement, she enjoyed crafting, whether sewing, embroidery, crochet or card-making. She also created holiday games and scavenger hunts for family gatherings with her grandchildren’s favorite being her elaborate Easter egg hunts. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Bob McCollum; siblings, Grace, Frieda, Herbert, Richard, Donald, Mary, Jane, Elsie, Norma and Carl. Hilda’s memory and legacy will be forever cherished by her two sons, Mark (Kim) McCollum and Matt (Lynne) McCollum; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Rachael, Robert, Jacob, Noah, Nihl, and Ellie, and her special sister-in-law Betty Heinz, as well as nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. Family, the Lord and church, specifically JaxNaz Church, meant everything to Hilda. Hilda set a wonderful example of selfless love, she was never too busy or too tired to offer a helping hand or be there for others. Hilda loved her family, helping to care for her grandkids, and cheering them on at school and other activities. She was an adored Nana. Hilda loved the Lord and shared her love for the Lord with her children and grandchildren, encouraging all to know and follow Jesus and to put their faith and trust in the Lord. She was a prayer warrior who never stopped trusting and believing in the power of the Lord’s hope, faithfulness, and love. A Service honoring her life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M JaxNaz Church (3905 Clinton Road Jackson, 49201). The family will also receive friends for visitation at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, 49202) on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Roseland Memorial Gardens. Contributions in her memory may be made to JaxNaz Church.
