

Mary Lucille (Knaak) Dewey, age 94, of Jackson, Michigan died December 4, 2025, in Jackson, Michigan. She was born June 21, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois to Rev. Paul and Lucille (Morgan) Knaak. Mary had a strong faith throughout her life, beginning with her baptism at age 10. She married Charles H. Dewey, Jr. on December 9, 1950, and they had almost 62 years of marriage together before he passed away in 2012. She worked for 17 years as a secretary with Dr. B.Z. Reizner but her favorite place to work was her church, Bethel Baptist. There she had secretarial duties and helped with activities such as the Cradle Roll. She also was a member of both the missionary team and the visitation team. Mary loved visiting nursing homes and being involved in women’s ministries. She also loved to travel, and visited all 50 states, as well as South America and Europe. Mary loved being a mom, a sister, a grandma, a great-grandma and an aunt and was especially proud of leading two grandchildren and two nephews to accept Christ. She is survived by her children Bruce (Patti) Dewey, Kaylyn (Michael) VanHarn and her “church daughter, ” Judy Gillmore; grandchildren Jackie (Jimmy) Knight, Brian (Emily) Dewey; great-grandchildren Chase and Korben Knight and Jackson, Conner and Eleanor Dewey, her sister Judie Tedder, niece Cristen (Jeff) Brown, and nephews Trip (Savanah) Vogt and Tyler (Olivia) Vogt. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, her grandson Dustin VanHarn and her sister-in-law Gloria Bammer. A Visitation will take place Tuesday December 9, 2025, from 6-8 PM at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home, 1806 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson with a funeral service at Bethel Baptist Church, 1691 Springport, Jackson, Wednesday December 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Brooklyn.
