

Mrs. Hopson, age 92 of Jackson, Michigan, departed this life on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born December 1, 1918 in Tazewell, Virginia to the late Shelton and Anna Bowles Moore. Mrs. Hopson gave her life to Christ in Virginia at an early age. From that day until her death, she served the Lord. She attended public school in Tazewell, Virginia and was united in marriage to William D. (Fats) Hopson in 1938. To this union, six children were born. They moved to Jackson, Michigan in 1955 where she was a home maker, a domestic worker and an independent caterer. She loved and enjoyed her family as well as gardening, cooking, traveling and speaking words of wisdom to family and friends. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Higby Street Church of Christ where she was an active member of the “golden agers”. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William D. (Fats) Hopson, six sisters, Susie Moore, Jessie M. Thompson, Nannie M. Peery, Janie Jones, Mallie M. Higginbotham, Ruth Brown Hurd; four brothers, Samuel G. Moore, Robert C. Moore, Barnes G. Moore, and Walter W. Moore. Mrs. Hopson leaves to cherish in her memory four daughters: Deborah (Donald) Scott of Locust Grove, GA, Rhonda (Bill) Hopson Moreland and Patricia (Walter) Broussard Jr., of Denver, CO., Wilma Hopson Sykes of Cincinnati, OH; two sons, William D. (Lorri) Hopson Jr. of Ypsilanti, MI and Larry (Sandra) Hopson of Jackson, MI., eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; brother, William H. Moore of Jackson, MI; sister, Barbara Morrison of Tazewell, VA; a special brother-in-law, LeeRoy Brown, Sr. of Jackson, MI, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and very special friends. A family hour will be held at the Higby Street Church of Christ Friday December 31, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Brother James Burrus officiating. Burial Roseland Cemetery. Viewing at the funeral home Thursday 6-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
