Of Jackson, Michigan passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home on June 2, 2020 at the age of 54. Randy was born on September 19, 1965 to parents Lynn Matteson and Sandy Matteson in Jackson, MI. Randy was a 1983 Jackson High School graduate, where he graduated with honors, in addition to breaking many records on the swim team. From there, he went on to acquire an Associates degree from ITT Tech, where he once again graduated with honors. After moving back to Jackson, Mi. from college he started his career at Michigan Seat Company. Once all challenges for Randy were exhausted, he moved onto working for Foamade Industries, in Auburn Hills, Mi. until the economic recession of 2008 hit, leading him to Toyota Boshoku America, where he was currently employed. Throughout his career, his eye for detail, extraordinary problem solving skills, and unparalleled work ethic left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with. Randy had so much love for the people in his life and those fortunate enough to have known him on a personal level quickly realized what an incredibly selfless man he was, putting those he cared about before himself and always going the extra mile to help. In his family's eye he was more than just a father, brother, uncle, or son. He was a hero, someone that was looked up to and deeply respected, someone that could be depended on, and someone that will be missed everyday. Like all great heroes before him though, stories of his greatness will continue to be told long after he's gone. One story still shared amongst family members to this day is the time he performed a majestic swan dive off the deck railing of his new pool and walked out bone dry, or so the story goes.
We've lost a good man, but gained an even better guardian angel.
Randy is survived by his Father, Lynn Matteson, sons, Derek Matteson and Devin Matteson fiance Alexis Macchia; Sister, Vicki Larmee her husband Steve; niece, Shaina Larmee; nephew, Chad Hands and his wife Lesley; Brother, John Matteson and his wife Tracy; nieces, Nikki Rutz, and her husband Jason; Jaimie Dominique; Step-Brother, Douglas Bishop, and his family, along with several great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Sandra Bishop and stepfather Donald Bishop. Per his wishes, cremation has been chosen so he may spend the rest of his days with those he loved. A celebration of Randy's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
