

Age 68 – Randy was born July 25, 1947 to Russell and Joan Derby. He graduated in 1965 from Vandercook Lake High School. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Randy retired in 2002 after a 25-year career working for the State of Michigan as a Corrections Officer. Randy fought a valiant battle with numerous health issues for many years. On January 29, 2016 and with his family by his side, he peacefully entered Heaven’s gate and was welcomed into our Lord’s arms. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant sister, Valerie Ann. Left to mourn are the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Diane, and also his sons, Todd (Jana) Derby, David (Ashley) Gordon, and Troy (Kimberly) Derby. He will also be deeply missed by ten grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Tyler, Alyssa and Grace Derby, Elijah, Ashlynn and Alexander Gordon, Daymien and Kylee Derby, and Jacob and Parker Omans. Randy was also looking forward to meeting his eleventh grandchild, Baby Gordon, in July. Randy enjoyed spending time playing cards with his family and many friends, traveling and visiting new restaurants. He enjoyed a good joke and could always make you laugh. Randy, you will be loved and missed by many. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Chas. J Burden and Son Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Sunday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, and Monday evening, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Services will take place at the Rives Baptist Church, (2800 W. Berry Rd, Rives Junction) on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, Pastor Dyke Cyphers officiating. Interment will at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Cascades Humane Society, the Allegiance Hospice Home, or the Pantry at Rives Baptist Church.
