

Of Michigan Center, Michigan passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at the age of 81. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 54 years, Jeanne Samon; five children, Heidi (Todd) Hamilton, Mary Jane (Joel) Peterson, Brian (Esmeralda) Samon, Richard (Jen) Samon, Martin (Cherie) Samon; twelve grandchildren, Daniela, Jacob, Caleb, Madeline, Logan, Ashley, Ella, Matthew, Ava, Thomas, Garrett and Harper; sister-in-law, Beverly Samon as well as many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Christine Samon; siblings, Martin D. (Joan) Samon, Vinnia Jean Samon, Lila (Wilson) Craw, John “Sarge” Samon, Sr. and Jerry “Muggs” (Mary) Samon. Robert was born in Jackson, Michigan on September 27, 1940 to Joseph and Grace (Meeks) Samon. After graduating from East Jackson High School, where he was a member of the football, baseball, track and cross country teams and participated with the Golden Gloves Boxing through the Three Horse Club. He enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in North Carolina and was a member of the Honor Guard for two years. After his Honorable discharge he returned to Jackson and was employed as a driver for Vernors Distributing. Robert married Jeanne Saumier on January 20, 1968 and together they raised their family. Robert retired as a Supervisor from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was a lifelong and devoted fan of the University of Michigan football teams, Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He was also an avid runner and completed seven Marathons in Michigan, Chicago, and Orlando, Florida. Robert also had a strong Faith in the Lord and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Bob will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Leoni Cemetery.
