

Of Jackson, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the age of 94. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his “favorite wife”, Ireane Gentry (he only had one) and three sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Gentry-Comer of Jackson, MI, grandson, Nicholas Comer of Manchester, England, special friend and caregiver Pamela Uhl of Jackson, MI, nephew Kenny Hughes of Jackson, MI, brother-in-law Randall Holloman and family of Brooklyn, MI and nieces and nephews. Rufus was one of four children born to George M. and Otie M. (Pool) Gentry in Wickliffe, KY on September 23, 1921. After graduating from High School he proudly served in the United States Army as a Platoon Sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during WWII and is a recipient of the Purple Heart Award as well as a Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge he continued his service in the Reserves and relocated with his young family to Jackson where he was a hardworking family man and retired from Ryerson-Haynes after many years. A celebration of his life will be held at Chas. J. Burden Funeral home on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. and again on Monday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military Honors. A special thanks to the caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care and Great Lakes Caring Hospice of Jackson.
