Age 97, Ruth passed away at her home in Trellis Gardens, Monday September 28, 2015 surrounded by friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Peters Sr., her daughters, Patricia and Elizabeth, her son, Carl Jr. and her parents, Julia Montgomery (Chandler) and Dr. Ben James Montgomery, sisters, Mary Vernon, Amis and Barbara, and brother Ben James. She is survived by her daughter, Anne of London, England, her son James of Ypsilanti, Michigan, grandsons, Jesse (Simone) of Chrishall, England and Ben (Amanda) of London, England and her great-grandson Itai of London, England. She was a beloved Aunt Ruth to her many nieces and Nephews. Ruth was born in Baskerville, Virginia and although she and Carl lived in the north for most of their married life, she always kept her southern accent and a special place in her heart for Virginia. She worked as a high school librarian, first at Jackson High School and then at Lumen Christi High School until her retirement at the age 76. She was loved by staff and students at both schools for her commitment, care and professionalism. When she retired, she continued to volunteer reading with children at her local elementary school and offering help and support to others. Ruth was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was generous with her time as a lector, friend and support to others and maker of wonderful pecan pralines for any event. She moved to Vista Grande Villa in 2003 where she made many friends, joined poetry and current affairs groups, supported the library and continued to offer time and support to others. Ruth was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and her presence and her lovely southern voice will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Richard Ressler officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made directed to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church library or Oxfam.
