Most people make the journey through life never taking chances, never asking questions and generally following the rules, not Terry. He dared to be different. He passionately became an advocate for the struggles of men and women he didn’t even know. Terry was born May 5, 1952 in Jackson, Michigan. He graduated from Jackson High in 1970. He attended Western Michigan University and worked for a short time at Kent-Moore Industries. He migrated to Los Angeles, California and worked in the group health profession. In the early eighties he moved to Chicago, Illinois. There he continued to work in Health Insurance. He was trained in HIV Prevention and was a support leader (TPA) Think Positive Awareness. It is hard to find one word to describe the gravity of influence Terry had on others. He was an inspiration to everyone that knew him. He held the gift of making one laugh and was never short on his opinions of the world. He was compassionate and a gifted singer. He loved Gospel Music and pursued it with dedication. Terry was baptized at Adams Street Church of Christ, Jackson, Michigan and attended Rogers Park Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. He is joined in death by his Mother, Mary Catherine Johnson Powell and Andrew Powell; Father, James Jones, Sr.; Brothers: Andrew, Jr. and Milton Ricky Powell; Niece, Tyler Rose; Honorary Mother and Father, Otis and Bernice McGuire and other family and friends. He leaves behind four sisters: Joyce, Crystal, Beverly and Tamela; three brothers: John, James and Jeffrey and a host of nieces, nephews and family. Funeral services will be held at Southside Church Friday January 31, 2014 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Jeffery A. Lang, Eulogist. Family hour Friday 12:30 PM until service time.
