

Of Jackson passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the age of 99. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Mary Dimitry also his brothers, Louis and Kotsi Dimitry. He is survived by his children, Dorothy, Philip, Paul (Colleen) Dimitry of Jackson and Marjori Gonzalez of Lakeland, FL. He will be missed by his beloved grandchildren, Auston (Eileen) of Hoboken, NJ, John (Kathrine) of Irving, TX and Gregory of Brooklyn, MI, as well as seven great grandchildren; sister in-law, Mitra Dimitry and numerous nieces and nephews. Vangel was born to Tanas and Christina Dimitry in Alona (Florina) Greece on August 14, 1912. He arrived in America, through Ellis Island in 1927. Then came to Jackson and started in the restaurant business. After his service in the U.S. Army during WWII he returned to Jackson and was co-owner and operator of New York Lunch Restaurant and Dimitry’s Hardware Store. He was active in the community and was a proud family man. He was a member of St. Demetrius Orthodox Church, Charter Member of AMVETS, Life member of Masonic Lodge 17 and an Associate Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed gardening, golf and spending time with his family. Visitation will be on Sunday evening, from 5 to 9 p.m. at St. Demetrius Orthodox Church 3043 Seymour Rd. Jackson, MI. with a Panikhida service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Church on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dusan Koprivica officiating. He will be laid to rest with Military honors in Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make contributions to St. Demetrius Orthodox Church in his memory.
