Verna Grace McCollum

Of Jackson, Michigan joined her husband of 63 years, Richard McCollum in Heaven on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the age of 92. She is survived by her three children, Cindy (Nate) Cummins, Cameron (Patricia) McCollum and Norman (Brenda) McCollum; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa (Gary) Peeples, siblings, Madgel, Dorothy, Gordon, Art. She was born to Arthur and Cecile Mae Howard in Jackson, Michigan on April 12, 1932. After graduating from Jackson High (1950) she married Richard McCollum (November 17, 1951) and together they had four children. Verna was a homemaker until she started working around 1968. She retired from the Jackson Eye Center in 1994. Verna had a strong Faith in the Lord and was an organist and pianist as well as participating in all aspects of the music program at the Church of the Nazarene for many years. She and Richard contributed their time and effort to the church throughout their lives. A Celebration of her life will be held at JaxNaz (3905 Clinton Road, Jackson 49201 on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 11:00 AM with a luncheon afterwards.The family will receive friends for visitation at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson 49202) on Wednesday evening from 3:00 until 7:00 PM there will also be a visitation at 10:00 AM on Thursday just prior to the service at the church. She will be laid to rest at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
