Vernell Owens Sr.

Vernell (Burnett) Owens, Sr. was born September 8, 1957 to Lloyd Smith and Rosie Lee Owens (Powell) in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father; Lloyd Smith, Mother; Rosie Lee Owens (Powell), Brother; Gregory Owens, Sisters; Walelta Powell and Renita Greene. Vernell graduated from Parkside High School in 1975. He had a love for all sports. You could always find Vernell at a sports event. He coached so many children throughout his life. Vernell touched so many lives from youth to adults. Vernell had a saying that he would say; “In order to achieve you must believe.” He loved his wife and children dearly and his family. Vernell accepted Christ before he departed this life. Vernell leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 27 years (25 years of Marriage) Gina Owens. Four sons; Vernell Owens, Jr., Rarshiem Owens, Domonique (Shavonie) Sampson, John (Shar’Ronnie) Garrett. Hi mother in law Linda Breedlove. Eight grandchildren; Dominique Sampson, Jr. Malea Sampson, Ra’myiah Sampson, Niani Sampson, Jayla Garrett, Kimberly Garrett, Karson Garrett and Jo’Elle Garrett. Three sisters Donella Edwards, Sharon (Frankie) Hall and Michelle (Willie) Brown. Two bothers James Powell and Victor Powell all of Jackson, Michigan and 2 very special cousins/ sisters, Claudia Hill and Toni Petty a special Aunt Jeanne Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
