Of Jackson, Michigan gained his Heavenly birthday on the same day as his earthly birthday, on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the age of 84. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born in Jackson, Michigan on January 27, 1941 to parents Hiram L. and Arnania (Koller) Sweezey. He grew up in Parma, Michigan and was a 1959 graduate of Western High School. Out of high school, Bill joined the Marine Corp and became a proud Veteran who loved his country. He spent his younger years working at Yardman with his father, his brother Jim, step-sister Pam and a few close friends. It was through one of those friends, that he met and married the love of his life, the champion of champions, Sharon Dellabaugh. They married on March 18, 1972 and began raising a family on Hallett St. in Jackson. In 1973, Bill began working at Melling Tool where he spent the next 35 years, until he retired in 2007. With retirement brought back his love for travel. He and his wife traveled all over the U.S. which even included a few luxury cruises. His lifelong passions were yard work and watching sports. Most days during warm weather, he would come home from work and happily stay out in the yard tending to the grass and flowers until the sun went down. In the winter, he could be seen shoveling snow in between snowflakes, to keep the driveway clean. He would wave at any and everybody that drove past. Bill was a die hard sports fan. His family always joked he would bleed green and white. Go Spartans! He loved to watch sports of all kinds and would often arrange his days around his favorite teams. Bill was also a huge music lover! He was very passionate about his 50's music and old classic country. He loved to play music on the TV, sit in his recliner and sing at the top of his lungs to his favorite oldies. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and had a table dedicated to them. Later in life, he enjoyed doing them on the computer.
In addition to his wife of almost 53 years, Bill is survived by sons, Terry (Torrey) Sweezey and Gene (Teresa) Sweezey; daughter, Cheryl (Brian) Meek; grandchildren, Todd Sweezey and Kaci Sweezey; great-grandchildren, Olivia Sweezey and Jovi Sweezey; and step-siblings, William (Linda) Green and David (Jane) Knapp. William was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Maureen (Emmons) Sweezey, sister Kathleen Holmes, brothers James L. Sweezey and Hiram A. Sweezey, and step-sister, Pamela (Green) Palmer.
He is dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. The Sweezey family would like to say a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for their excellent service and care during the last week of Bill’s life. Per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.
Donations in his honor may be made to The Summit, (formerly known as The Jackson Church of God).
