Darby passed away peacefully in her home in Atlantic Beach, FL surrounded by her loving family and friends including Jackson, her canine best buddy, on August 16, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. She maintained her special warmth, infectious smile and love for others throughout her disabling illness. While Darby had many gifts, perhaps her greatest was her ability to help uplift people with her enthusiasm for life and genuine concern for them.
Darby was born and raised in Wilmington, DE. She attended Widener University in nearby Chester PA, studying business and marketing. She enjoyed a 24-year career at the DuPont Company, traveling throughout the United States and internationally. Early in her career, she was the first women to market directly in the field for the company’s multi-billion-dollar Automobile Refinish business. She held several increasing responsible positions over the years, concluding as a marketing consultant and trainer for the company’s nationally recognized Personal Safety Program.
Darby loved to dance, cook Italian dishes, get together with friends for special occasions or just a night out at a local restaurant. She enjoyed walking on the beach, meeting new people, and most of all, sharing time with family and friends. She was a recent member of the Newcomers Club of the First Coast and The LTN.
Darby is survived by her husband, George Palmer, their son Tyler, three “step” children whom she loved as her own, Armonde Sylvester (Tony) of New Castle, DE, Pilar Compello (Erik) of Newark, DE, and Mark Palmer (Natasha) of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, five grandchildren, one great granddaughter and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Mario and Carol DiSabatino, niece Taryn Burris (Jason), and nephew Matt DiSabatino (Ali), all of Lewes, DE.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Dr., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082 at 10 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 followed by a reception in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a favorite charity or to the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32216. By phone: 904 493 4566. On line: Https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/jaxhumane.
