

Mrs. Debra Lynn Walker Grant, 66, of Jacksonville, Florida died Sunday evening, February 6, at Beaches Baptist Hospital. She was born in Waycross, Georgia in 1955 to the late James Raymond Walker and Bennie Arden Carter Walker. Debra has been a resident of Jacksonville, Florida since 1988. Debra was a full-time mother for many years, and then following she became an insurance claims specialist with The Hartford from which she retired to better enjoy her passion to be the best ‘Nana’ ever.
Debra was a member of Isle of Faith church for many years, where she sang in the choir, worked with the youth ministry and the prayer team. She enjoyed women’s retreats and made many lasting friendships while serving and worshiping alongside others. Currently, she and her husband are members of Coastal Baptist church where they have attended for several years. While at Coastal, Debra served in the Coastal Compassion Ministry, and has become a beloved member of her church family. Debra believed strongly that Christ Followers should be in community with one another, and exhibited that in her daily life. Debra had a passion for Jesus, an obedient heart, and a desire to follow and serve where He would lead. Debra not only served her church and the community, but she served her family as well; in most recent years she helped to care and comfort her mother and her father in their final years.
Debra is survived by her husband, James Grant, Jacksonville, Florida, one daughter and two sons, Kelly Grant Smith and her husband Kevin of Crawfordville, Florida, James (Jim) Grant and his wife Jennifer of Canton, Georgia, Loyd Grant and his partner Shawna of Jacksonville, Florida, seven grandchildren, Bethany Bull, Alexandra Smith, Andrew Grant, Noah Grant, Allison Grant, Mason Grant and Dominic Grant, four beloved sisters, Sandra Eve and her husband Hammond of Brunswick, Georgia, Carol Monteith of Tampa, Florida, Susan Stanley of Decatur, Georgia and Alesia (Lisa) Sirmans and her husband Greg of Blackshear, Georgia. Debra has many nieces and nephews with whom she spent much time with over the years and loved fervently.
During these past weeks of Debra’s illness, and then in our time of grief the family has received an outpouring of love and sympathy which has been overwhelming, and restorative as well. It is a blessing to know how many friends Debra had, and how many lives she has touched. You are all in our hearts and we understand the depth of your loss as you grieve with us.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 12th at Coastal Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
