On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Elizabeth Volpe died peacefully in her sleep at St. Vincent’s Hospital Southside in Jacksonville, Florida. Lisa, her daughter, and her sisters, Ave and Neely were by her side. She was born in a small town in Grumo Appula in Southern Italy. Although she grew up in New York City, Elizabeth met her husband in Rome and married Pasquale in a small chapel in the Vatican. Elizabeth would raise three children: Connie, Angelo, and Lisa. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 55 years, her children, her granddaughter and her sisters Ave, Neely, Mary and Agnes. She was predeceased by her brothers Rocco and Carlo and her sister Agnese.
She was a woman who spoke five languages, who read any book she came across and who accomplished her lifelong dream of owning a used bookstore (Twice Loved Tales in Jacksonville, Florida) at 50 years old and ran it for twenty years. Elizabeth had a close and special relationship with her only grandchild, Alexandra, now a college student. While fiercely independent, Elizabeth Volpe was a family person and an extraordinary woman. She will be missed dearly and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
