He was preceded in death by his parents, Hayward and Annell Bowden; and brothers, Bobby Bowden and Michael Bowden. He is survived by his wife; Rhonda Bowden, Jacksonville, FL. Two children; sons, Eric Bowden, Jacksonville, FL; Trent (Sarah) Bowden, Carrollton, TX. Sibling; sister, Shirley (Barry) Daniel, Peachtree City, GA and numerous nieces, nephews and loving family & friends.
Doug’s childhood was in a military family which took him to many places in the United States and overseas. In 1971, he and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, which remained his hometown ever since.
Doug was a loving husband and a wonderful father. He was a caring and gentle man who took care of his family. Doug was always willing to help someone who was in need. He led by example to his family & friends by living by the motto, “The Three C’s: Compassion, Concern & Consideration.”
Doug was always very mechanically inclined. For the last 24 years of his life, Doug was self-employed with his own business called Mobile Mower Service & Repair. He was appreciated and loved by customers all over Jacksonville and the surrounding areas and always presented strong work ethic and dedication to his customers.
In his spare time, Doug enjoyed fishing, playing music, and spending time with his family. He was truly a great husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed each and every day.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
When Doug’s brother Bobby passed away, he wrote a heartfelt poem for him. This poem suits Doug perfectly.
Years will pass and hearts will mend
But our love for him will never end
After your journey to the heavenly sky
Our Lord and passed family are waiting by
Your presence will surely be missed
Your life to us has been a precious gift
