

James E. Pound, 93, passed away April 27, 2015 in Atlantic Beach, FL. A native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he attended Isle of Faith United Methodist Church. He was a member of the 8th Army Air Corps and was involved in the Berlin Air Lift of 1948. It was during his time serving in the UK during WWII, that he met his bride of 63 years Adela W. Harper Pound, a WAF in the Royal Air Force. His military career progressed and after attaining the rank of Lt. Col., he retired from the Air Force. He also served as the 1st Facility Chief at the Air Traffic Control Center, in Hilliard, FL. He retired from the FAA after many years of dedicated service. Mr. Pound was an avid outdoorsman enjoying golf, fishing and hunting. His love of the Florida Gators ran deep and he was an enthusiastic supporter of UF athletics.
Mr. Pound was preceded in death by his wife in 2008 and is survived by his sons, James E. Pound., Jr. (Donna), William E. Pound (Marjorie) and Shawn R. Pound (Deborah); grandchildren, Elizabeth Wainer, Ashley Butler and Devon Yancey; and great-grandchildren, Grahame Wainer, Heyward Wainer and Alice Harper Yancey. The Pound family plans for a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society. Arrangements are the direction of HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
