

James C. Smith, aka as Jim to his friends, Jimsy to his grandchildren, died 12 April 2025 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was born 9 September 1933 in Savannah, Georgia to Evelyn Worsham Smith and William Smith. Their second child after sister Mary Lou. He graduated from Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida, after which he joined the U.S. Army. After completing his military service, he attended the University of Florida graduating in three years. He was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Jim then moved to Washington, D. C. where he attended George Washington University Law School. He was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency in his third year and quickly opted for a different career. He spent 25 plus years with the agency serving in Europe, the Far East, and Middle East. In his career, he was most often accompanied by his family. After Retirement, he continued to study and read extensively. He never stopped learning. He was known to his many friends for his humor, compassion, and knowledge.
He has left to mourn his passing by his wife Barbara to whom he was married for almost 64 years. His sons Steven (Kelly), Kevin (Lesley), and daughter Nikki Smith,, grandchildren Porcia (Chris) Adalia, Schuyler Smith, Jordan Cook, Caden and Landon Smith, great grandchildren Leo, Kalani, and Killian Adalia, sister Jeanette Steiner, niece Cynthia (James) Baker, and Nephew Chris (Barbara) Parkinson.
