He was born February 21, 1936, in Garland, Maine to Hiram Stanley and Agnes B. Floyd.
Growing up, Philip developed an appreciation for cars and music, even learning to play the accordion. He graduated from Milo High School in 1954, prior to attending the University of Maine.
In 1957, he married Evelyn Louise Floyd and they were together for 49 years until her death in 2006. They especially enjoyed travel and having pets, most recently Scruffy.
Philip was a faithful husband to Evelyn and loving father to his children. He was excited about his 1977 salvation experience: loving, following and serving Jesus Christ.
He wanted to share with others what Jesus meant to him and how accepting Christ had changed his life. Phil frequently enjoyed participating in church activities, including men’s breakfasts and Bible studies.
His hobbies included “tinkering” with cars and attending classic car shows. He also looked forward to being a spectator with his brothers at the annual Daytona 500 race.
It’s no surprise that his love for cars spilled over into his work life as a skilled mechanic for decades. For the last 20 years of his career, he worked in various roles for Publix, including driving the big rigs.
Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, and brothers, Robert and Francis (surviving spouse, Dorothy). He is survived by his son, Lawrence (Larry) Floyd (Robbin Baggs Floyd) and daughter, Dianna Marino (Joseph Marino).
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Philips honor to Community Hospice.
