Bob was very giving and lived life to it's fullest.  I remember that he used to bring me my favorite wine when he visited which was hard to find.  I remember when the girls painted his toe-nails while he napped (I think he like the color). Oh, how he loved the gatorsI remember flying with him to a gator game in Alabama and how he used to laugh at my big orange chinese lady hat and bow to me. Bob was a good friend and a loving soul.  The world is less fun without him.

Bob was the icon memory of Haskell for me. My trips with Bob and boys were always fun and memeroable. My prayers are with your family for Bob is peacefully looking down on you all.

I will never forget him. He was my buddy. We had so much good and crazy times the short time we had to known each other. He will be missed.

I came to Jacksonville 25 years ago and began my career at Haskell working with Bob. Bob immediately made me feel like family including me in his golf group,Sunday dinner at the copper top, poker nights, and many other outings. I have great memories of the time I spent with Bob.  He was one of a kind to all who knew him and I am grateful for having had that privilege. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Mindy and I send our thoughts and prayers to Dianne and the entire Soulby family.

I have so many fun memories of Uncle Bob from years of tailgating and attending Gator games during my childhood. I've always been sensitive to cigarette smoke and that was a time when you could still smoke in the stadium. Uncle Bob was always on "smokers' patrol" and asking smokers around us to put out their cigarettes. That's just the kind of man he was; he could always make you laugh while keeping an eye out for you. To Aunt Dianne, Lori, Christie, Brian and Chris, God Bless.

Uncle Bob has always been one of the most joyful people I have ever known. 

Funny, kind, loving and caring to every one he knew, what I've always been happiest about is the love he brought into our family--and the smile on my Aunt Diane's face.

I believe God put Bob on this Earth to make it a happier place. He did his job well--and we'll keep his legacy going with every smile, story and joke from here on out.

I recall my parents (Kenny and Kathy Garrison) refer to a Bob Soulby when they worked at Haskell and what a wonderful, fun person he was and then when I came on board and began working for Haskell, I, too, saw what my parents meant. Marlene & I have wondeful memories of Bob when I worked at Haskell. Bob was great to work for & he love life & lived to the fullest. I am so sad to hear of Bob's passing.  We worked together at Diversified Clinical Servies and though I did not see him much, he always greeted me with a smile and of course some GATOR FOOTBALL talk!

Kris and I have very fond memories of all the times we spent with Bob going to the Gator games (even though I am a Bulldog), Calypso's for conch fritters and the numerous parties. It was always a memorable time whenever he was around; he had a way of being the life of the party. Working for Bob was an adventure in itself; you never knew what he was going to come up with for you to do whether it be organizing his football pool, getting his car washed or shopping for his personal gifts. His kindness and sense of humor were some of his best attributes. Bob loved life and lived it to it's fullest. He will surely be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. Although we will be in Dallas and unable to attend his funeral, our thoughts and prayers will be with the family.

Bob's love of life was something we could all learn from.  When we got married in Las Vegas almost 5 years ago, we knew it wouldn't be a proper Vegas wedding without Bob and Dianne.  We spent the day before our wedding in the sports area of Treasure Island Casino with him watching Gator football.  His spirit will live on in so many.  We were honored and privileged to call him family and friend.

I worked with Bob at Haskell and also spoke to him many times at the Phoenix Building when I worked at Wakefield Beasley.  He was such a great guy and had all of my respect.  As he battled Cancer back in 2002 I believe, I prayed and prayed for his recovery and a miracle happened...  WOW....  My sincere prayers go to the family.  I lost my mother 3 weeks ago and know it is so difficult.  Much love to each of you.  (I am sad that I cannot attend as I just had surgery)  Pam Berlin

This was written by Pat Gray (a good friend of my dad) about dad and golfing:

Throughout the years, Bob has always hit his driver very straight. (unlike most of us). BUT...not always the “farthest”.  Nevertheless, he always played with us from the “blue tees”.  He never “gave in” and never complained.  There were “obstacles” at Hidden Hills that he always “went after”, even though the results were often frustrating. 


“Soulby's Hill” is on the left hand side of hole #13, right near the bunker. There is a “164” yard marker (on a sprinkler head) that pretty much defines “Soulby's Hill”. If Bob hit a good drive from the blue tees, slightly to the left side of the fairway, it would never quite clear this hill. Rather, it would hit square into it and bounce directly left toward the bunker.  He spent so much time in the area around and to the left of “Soulby's Hill” that he called it his “office”. 

 

“Soulby's Ridge” runs right across #9 fairway. It's a series of “moguls” along a ridge line, about 190 yards out from the blue tees. If Soulby hit a “good one” off the tee, it often flew right into this ridge, and lost all it's momentum. No “bounce forward”, it just sort of thudded into “Soulby's Ridge” and he would have to hit driver or three wood to try to reach the green. As Bob hit the ball so straight, he almost always hit this ridge. He couldn't get the ball to fly past it.  But he sure as heck kept trying to.

 

“Soulby's Pond” and “Soulby's Cove” are lesser known areas at HHCC. "Soulby's Pond” is in front of #8 green. The famous story is that, one day, he kept hitting ball after ball into it, ALMOST making it to the green on every try, only to hit the bulkhead and splash back into the water. Well, after the first ball went in the water, he was “given advice” to use “more club”. But we all know Bob Soulby. Rather than “hit more club”, he insisted that he just had to hit the club he was using....”a little more solid”. So he kept at it...and at it and at it.  A “Tin Cup” moment.  I think he finally moved up a bit and slammed it onto the green. He made a 12 or 14 or something like that, so we dubbed it “Soulby's Pond” that day, because he kept filling it up with golf balls.

 

“Soulby's Cove” is on the right hand side of #10 fairway. It is short of the bunker on the right. It is a mown area that kind of fans out a bit toward the town houses, and, when Soulby hit a “good drive” off the blue tees, it would not reach the bunker, but would nestle safely in “Soulby's Cove”, a protected area of the fairway that none of the rest of us could ever get a ball to stop in.

 

So the king of the “driver off the fairway” has his landmarks all over Hidden Hills Country Club.   And they will always bear his name in our group.
