Amelia who was known to many as Maria was born in Naples on February 3, 1934. She met the love of her life Milton L. James (Jimmy) in Naples Italy in 1952 and were married that year. They started a family in 1953 and raised 5 children together.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved yardwork, gardening, traveling, Alabama & Florida Gator football games and being with family and friends. During football season when her teams were playing, she would not take phone calls from anyone until her games were over. She traveled to many places from Italy, Spain, London, California, Bahamas and Las Vegas which was her favorite destination. She had a zest for life, lived it to the fullest and had the deepest love for her family and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Milton L. James, her sons William David James and Richard David James. She is survived by three of her children Dee Batten (Mike), Robert James and Susan Thompson (Mark). Additionally, she lives on through her many grandchildren and great grandchildren: William Durham (Nikki), Tommy Durham, Jennifer Perri (Ryan), Christina Frantz (Alex), Megan Thompson, Richard James, Christopher James, Brandon James, Kaitlynn Durham, Chloe Ryals, Joseph Durham, Thomas Durham, Wyatt Durham, Claire Perri and Corbin Perri.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice St. Augustine, Lori, Geneva Willis, Tabitha Newsome and Maggie Alvarado for the wonderful care they provided.
There will be a visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. John's Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, Florida 32225 followed by a Graveside Service.
