Arnold Stevens (94), went to be with his Lord and Saviour, on Tuesday, September, 29, 2025, peacefully, just one day shy of his 95th birthday, which we celebrated royally on the previous Saturday. If you knew Arnold you know how happy he was that day to be surrounded by his family and close friends. Born in Douglas, Georgia on September 30, 1930, Arnold lived a long, full life rooted in faith, family, and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Stevens, and Mary M. Barnwell, and was the last surviving member of the original Stevens family, consisting of 13 brothers and sisters, as well as by his beloved wife of 67 years, Peggy Stevens, with who he shared a lifetime of love, devotion, and laughter.
Arnold is survived by his devoted daughter, Stormy Rosseland (Wayne), and his two faithful sons, Keith Stevens (Kathy), and Scott Stevens (Bianca). He was a proud grandfather to Lacy, Cody, and Gabriel, and a doting great-grandfather to Kason and Kollins, and a faithful nephew, Danny Stevens (Cheryl). Beyond his immediate family, Arnold, was affectionately regarded as an "honorary" father to many, including his "lunch girls" Peggy Miller, Debbie Glass, and Libby Lopez, who brought joy to his days with what he lovingly called their "hen parties." He always cherished the sound of their laughter and "cackling."
Arnold's life of service began when he enlisted in the United States Army on September 26, 1951. He faithfully served his country, achieving the rank of Corporal prior to his honorable discharge on August 11, 1953. In 1954, shortly after his discharge while visiting a relative in Jacksonville, Florida, he met and married the love of his life, Peggy, and together they built a family and a legacy grounded in love and faith.
By trade, Arnold, was a skilled carpenter, and his handiwork was a reflection of the care and precision he brought to all aspects of his life. He was also a proud member of Oceanview Masonic Lodge #408, F&AM, Jacksonville Scottish Rite, and Callahan Order of the Eastern Star, giving of himself to the communities he cherished. Most importantly Arnold was a man of deep faith. He served the Lord faithfully as a Deacon at East 11th Street Baptist Church, leading with humility, devotion, and a steadfast love for Christ.
Those who knew Arnold will remember him as a man of kindness, strength, and quiet humor, but most of all his humbleness. His greatest joy was found in his family, his faith, and the simple yet meaningful connections his nurtured with others. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the family he loved so dearly, and the countless memories he leaves behind.
