Austin Jonathan Goodwin

Austin, was born July 9th, 1995 in Jacksonville, FL to Christy Hodges and Johnny Goodwin. Diagnosed with Cockayne Syndrome at a young age, Austin lived a life of Adventure. From going fishing, riding his four wheeler, swimming, helping his papa in the tree’s, playing with his wrestlers and monster trucks, playing baseball for the Jacksonville Miracle League, to snuggling up with his nana, Austin loved hard and lived his life to the fullest. With an infectious laugh and smile that could light up the darkest room, there was never a dull moment. From “sneaking a beer” to catching you off guard with his witty stories, he had a way to always make you laugh and keep you on your toes. Austin had a love for police officers, and wanted to be one when he grew up. Austin made a very special friend, Mr. Mark Muchowicz, whom he always wanted to go “catch the bad guys” with and fight crime.

In September 2014, Austin experienced a life changing medical event that changed life as we knew it. The last 8 years, Austin continued to thrive and beat all odds stacked against him. Through the journey, Austin continued to make an impact on everyone he came into contact with, and gained a second family, of amazing nurses and caregivers.

Austin is survived by his Mother, Christy Hodges Vinson; Stepfather, Israel Vinson; Maternal Grandparents, Wayne and Marie Hodges; Paternal Grandparents, Bettie and Eugene Danahoo; Sisters, Hayley (Ryan) Bunch, Madison Goodwin, and Shailynn Vinson; Brother, Cole Goodwin; Niece, Adeline Bunch; Nephew, Lucas Bunch; and countless Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.

Austin is preceded in death by his Father, Johnny Goodwin; Paternal Grandfather, John Goodwin; his Uncle Robert “Bobby” Williams; and Great Grandmothers Mary Williams and Lawana Hodges.

Celebration of life service will take place at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205 on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022. Visitation begins at 11 AM with Services and Graveside following immediately after.”
