Barbara was born on April 20, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon graduation from Lee High School in 1952, she went to work at Southern Bell. Later, she went to work for the Justice of the Peace, until consolidation and then transferred to the City of Jacksonville in the County Trial Department where she retired on December 31, 1992 after 32 years of service.
Barbara loved her church and serving the Lord by being a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and spent many years serving on the Board. She was a devoted Christian, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend. Barbara loved cooking for her big family every Sunday. She was kind, loving, fun and strong. She also loved gardening, travel, playing scrabble (may have cheated a little), crossword puzzles, dancing, shopping and the Gators. But most of all, she loved her grandbabies, who affectionately named her Boppie.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Estelle & James Boyd, Brothers Lowell Boyd and Sonny Boyd and great-granddaughter Penelope Sowers. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Dean) Lanier and Carol (Don) Ladson, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her Sister, Anne (David) Rock and many nieces and nephews. Boppie’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers: Dana (Sean) Harrington, Matt Lesniak, Jobeth (Clay) Vanzant, Lindsey (Tyler) Sowers, Wesley (Alex) Ladson, Sarah Lanier and Victoria Lanier.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 11 followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm at the West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church, 8376 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. Interment will follow service at Riverside Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church.
Many thanks to Community Hospice, friends and family for the love and support through this journey.
