Baxter Clayton Austin, Jr. (86) Passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on February 2, 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida. Baxter was a man of quiet strength who had a passion for animals and nature.
Baxter graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in 1957. He was a dedicated x-ray technician who worked and retired from McClow, Clark and Berk at St. Vincent’s Hospital after 27 years. He was married to our mother, Kathleen M. High for 21 years.
Baxter was happiest outside. He loved camping and fishing. He enjoyed gardening and feeding wildlife. He worked on genealogy for years.
Baxter is survived by his children, Doreen K. Arteaga (Juan), Michael Allen Austin and Teresa Leanne Clark (Cecil). Sister, Carolyn Bivins (Ray). He was a proud Grandpa to seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and had many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Baxter Clayton Austin, Sr., mother, Edith Burnett Austin and brother, Eugene Franklin Austin.
A graveside service for Baxter will be held Monday, May 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
