Bernie was born August 23, 1940, in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the oldest of three daughters born to Jack Morehouse and Ella Owens. As a military daughter, she enjoyed going to the teen dances on the military base. In 1955 at a military dance, John Robert Moss asked her if she wanted a Coke and a 57 year love story began. John and Bernie were married December 9, 1955, in Columbia, SC. Within the first year of marriage, John joined the United States Air Force, and the now Mrs. Moss diligently served her country by being a devoted military wife for the next 26 years. The Air Force took Bernie and John all over the world with their 5 daughters in tow. After retiring from the U.S Air Force, John and Bernie settled in Plant City, Florida. Soon after, the Moss family of 7 grew to the Moss family of 9 when they adopted David and Tammy. As her children grew older, Bernie started her 35-year career at Kmart. She traveled all over the state of Florida, south GA, and the Virgin Islands, opening new stores and training store staff. She enjoyed her grandchildren visiting her Kmart- showing them off to her work family, and letting her grandchildren make a pit stop at the toy aisle on the way out. Bernie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved caring for her animals, tending to plants and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service for Bernie will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home & Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
