

Betty was born in Natural Tunnel, Virginia, the daughter of the late James Comer Sr. and Julia Bishop Comer. She was raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and after graduating high school, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where she met and married a young Sailor named Wesley. Being a Navy family, they moved several times but eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida, to raise their daughters Cynthia and Deborah, and she called it home for nearly 50 years.
Betty was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and a cherished member of the community. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and making a difference in the lives of those around her. Betty was known for her generous spirit and unwavering love for others. She enjoyed her daily neighborhood golf cart rides, working in the yard, watching the birds, and taking care of her adopted cat, Patches.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Wesley Walker, and her brother, James Comer Jr. (Carolyn). She is survived by her children, Cynthia Hauptner (David) and Deborah Withrow (Gerald); grandchildren, Andrew (Abigail), Alexander, and Breanna; stepsister, Carolyn Mullins; and stepbrother, Richard Mullins (Pat). Betty will be forever missed and fondly remembered for her kindness, strength, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A graveside service for Betty will be held Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
