Charles “Chuck” Wood Pinkston was born on March 23, 1930 in Greenwood, Mississippi and went home to be with his Lord on March 11, 2024, just shy of his 94th birthday, in Saint Augustine, Florida. His sense of humor and love of life will be missed by all who knew him.
Among many things, Chuck was a Navy veteran, disc jockey (as pictured), and operated his own construction business in Orlando, Florida before retiring from Walt Disney World, where he helped build the Swan and Dolphin resort hotels.
During retirement he wore several other hats, including airport shuttle operator, school bus driver, jazz music aficionado, and amateur golfer. Chuck was also a fanatical supporter of the Florida State University football team, particularly during the Bobby Bowden coaching era.
One of Chuck’s favorite sayings upon greeting the day was “Good morning, Lord, what wonders do you have in store for us today?” He was a long time church member who once traveled nationally with a gospel choir and often volunteered as an usher who greeted folks with a wide smile and firm handshake.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents, Jess and Ada Pinkston; his sister Carolyn “Pinky” Pinkston Woodell; and his brothers, Jess Pinkston, Jr. and James “Jimmy” Pinkston. He is survived by his son, Sean (Linda) Fowlds; his daughters Debbie (John) Straiton, Pam (Roger) Kipp, and Angie (John) Malamon; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Charles will be held on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the memorial service, a committal service will be held at 11:30 AM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218 with military honors.
