He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn L Riggs, his daughter, Lisa Marie Pitman and granddaughters Alessandra Pitman and Ashley Woods. He is also survived by his cousins Billie Drain, Carol Clark, Dee Patterson, and Reatha Harrison and Rick Thomas many close friends from The North Florida Bicycle Club and The USS Holland Association.
Clyde graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1955, immediately joining the Navy and had a long military career. During his 30 year service in the Navy he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 from The University of the State of New York. The Navy gave Clyde many opportunities to study to further advance his rank from a Recruit Training Commander to a Defense Department Command Master Chief on the USS Holland. He retired in 1985 while stationed in Naples Italy.
After retiring from the Navy Clyde, Carolyn, and Lisa settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he went to work for Insurance Risk Services with a 30 year career. Clyde's outside activities included The USS Holland AS-32 Association 21 years, The Elks Club for 54 years and The American Legion for 27 years. But his favorite membership was The North Florida Bicycle Club. During his 38 years with the club he rode in every major ride sponsored by the Club, led rides on the Baldwin Trail, and organized his own ride twice a year "Clyde's Ride." He was the Vice President (or as Clyde called the position, President of Vice) for several years. He was a member of the 4,000 and 5,000 mile Club. Clyde's friendship with Dennis Glasscock led to a spin off of Date Night at the Wall Street. This membership to the Bike Club led to so, so many great friendships.
Being a member of the USS Holland Association he and Carolyn attend a yearly reunion held at various Navy bases around the country and overseas. Of course Clyde and Carol made so many
lasting friendships.
