Councill (Connie) Hendrix Alexander, 95, passed away on March 29, 2017 at the River Garden Senior Service facility in Jacksonville, Florida. Connie was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on September 20, 1921. She is survived by her two sons and their families; Terry Alexander and his wife Miriam along with son Tyler; Bill Alexander and his wife Katie along with sons Graham, Justin and daughter Kasey.
Connie lived her early life in Advance, North Carolina, the thirteenth and youngest child of “Mayor” William Anderson Hendrix and Rosa Jane Hendrix. Connie was a very special person-not only kind and loving to her family, but to hundreds of friends she made from all walks of life-she had a magic smile. In 1945 she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she remained for the rest of her life-it was there that she met and married the love of her life and the boys’ father, Curtis Alexander. They were married for 63 years until his death in 2009.
Connie was a homemaker who had many interests-usually involving her husband and children-including serving as the President of the local school’s PTA, and serving as President of the local Women’s Club. She was the most avid fan of High School and college sports where her sons excelled. Her younger son Terry; who was an outstanding baseball player and later a coach; explained that Curtis and Connie never missed a game regardless of weather. Connie followed her son’s teams to games around the country-even including a 3000 mile trip to Hawaii. Her cheerful attitude and support at those games was not only an inspiration to her favorite players but to the many fans she met and who also became inspired in the grandstands.
Connie never made an enemy-and was adored by all throughout her selfless life. She leaves us all the better for her sweet love and guidance.
Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home is serving the family. A funeral will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00am with interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
