Born on July 14, 1955, Craig was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended Ed White High School, graduating in 1973. While in high school, he lettered in both football and basketball, showcasing his athleticism and competitive spirit.
From a young age, Craig attended Avondale United Methodist Church and cherished the time spent worshipping there with his parents during visits to Jacksonville. His faith and upbringing shaped his values of kindness, generosity, and dedication to others.
Craig went on to attend Troy University, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance. While at Troy, he was an active member of the Delta Chi Fraternity and enjoyed reconnecting with his fraternity brothers at football games and reunions for many years after graduation.
After college, Craig began his career with International Harvester – Freightliner Orlando and later held leadership roles with IOS Capital and GE Capital. He retired in 2016 and devoted his time to volunteer initiatives, family, and his many interests. An avid golfer, Craig enjoyed spending time on the course in retirement, and he also developed a passion for photography—capturing wildlife and, of course, treasured moments with his precious grandchildren.
In 2021, after the passing of his father, Henry, Craig became the primary caregiver for his beloved mother, Louise. Caring for her became his priority, and he dedicated himself to ensuring her comfort and happiness until her passing on April 15, 2025, at the age of 97.
Craig was a devoted father to his only child, Christopher A. Stewart (Wesleigh), and spent many years coaching basketball and supporting him in all his sporting passions. He was immensely proud of his three grandchildren—Cooper, Banks, and Mozelle Stewart—who brought him endless joy.
Craig was preceded in death by his loving parents, Henry B. Stewart and Louise H. Stewart, as well as his brother, Stanley L. Stewart (Shirley). He is survived by his son and grandchildren, as well as two nephews, Brian Stewart (Erica) and Adam Stewart (Madison), and their children—McKenzie Black, Gabriel, and Quinn and Maxine Stewart.
Known for his beautiful and infectious smile and his “gentle giant” approach to life, Craig was loved by many and will be remembered for his warmth, humility, and unwavering loyalty to family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared so freely.
A memorial service for Craig will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Avondale United Methodist Church, 1651 Talbot Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
