Cynthia Ann Cooper Mathis, loving daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, entered into peaceful rest on Monday, January 31, 2011 at the age of 58. Cindy leaves behind many family members and friends who will greatly miss and always love her. The wonderful memories of her will live forever in our hearts.
As a lifelong Florida resident, she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1970. Most of her early adult life was spent focusing on raising her three children and spending time with her family and friends. She was very proud to be the mother of a lovely daughter and identical twin sons. As her children grew older, she began working as an interview clerk with the Department of Children and Families. At her passing, she felt blessed to have a twenty-two year career with DCF. Cindy developed several strong and lasting relationships with her coworkers. They were all like an extension of her family. All who knew Cindy would say that she loved all animals, especially dogs. She had several dogs that she treated like her own family. Missy, her dog of thirteen years, preceded her death, and Lucy, her newest little one, was a light to her heart in her last days.
She is survived by her loving family including her father and mother: Leonard and Gladia Cooper; two sisters: Karen (Bud) Felton and Cathy (Harold) Clarkson; three children: Cherele Mathis (Shane Walker), Michael (Misty) Mathis, and Trevor (Jamie) Mathis; niece and nephew: Sara and Brantley Felton; six grandchildren: Tristen, Garrett, and Dylon Walker, Kioni Harmon, and Kyli and Karli Mathis; several cousins, including Pam Rio, and many friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the chapel of the Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205, at 11AM. All family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, food, or other condolences, the family requests donations are made to the Northeast Florida Community Hospice/Hadlow Center for Caring, 4114 Sunbeam Road, Suite 101, Jacksonville, Florida 32257.
