Debra Sue Coleman, age 71 of Jacksonville, FL passed away on August 25, 2025. She was peaceful in her home, surrounded by her loving husband, daughters, and brother. Debbie, as she was known, was born July 4, 1954, in Jacksonville to the late Bob and Pat Trull.
Debbie grew up on the Southside of Jacksonville with her parents and five siblings. She enjoyed the beach and spent summers in North Carolina with her favorite cousin Pam. Debbie and Pam shared a love of music and dancing. She spent many days on a ballfield with her father, who coached Little League baseball. Debbie would eventually meet her future husband, Jim, while he was playing for her father at Southside Estates. She attended Englewood High School where she was a member of the band and majorettes. She enjoyed performing at pep rallies and football games. Debbie followed in her father’s footsteps and began coaching sports at a young age. This led her back to that boy who was once on her father's team. Debbie married Jim and they went on to raise a family of four beautiful girls. Sports were always present in the home, including volleyball, softball, both coaching and playing, and golf. In her forties, Debbie tried out for and was awarded an opportunity to play for a women’s professional baseball league. Despite this impressive feat, Debbie’s family remained her top priority, and she declined the invitation. Debbie was the family’s rock, her daughters’ best friend, and her grandchildren’s champion. She was a light to anyone she met.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Jim Coleman; daughters Dani Shumake (Mike), Julie Geis (Adam), Keri Barkey (Luke), and Jackie Coleman; grandchildren Lauryn Shumake, Julianne Shumake, Shelby Shumake, Mikey Shumake, Ryne Barkey, Jackson Geis, and Jay Barkey.
