Delilah Pugh Minchew, who was the epitome of love and nurturing and who also embodied the roles of a devoted daughter, sister, mother, cherished Ma-Ma, and beloved great Ma-ma, peacefully passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Delilah was born to Preston and Emma Pugh on March 23rd, 1939 in Brewton, Alabama. She was raised in a strong Christian family, that loved the Lord. She graduated from W S Neal High School. During the beginning of her childhood, you could find Delilah on her family’s farm feeding chickens, milking cows, attending to the mules and picking cotton to help support her family. As she got older she became involved in the restaurant industry and it was here that she met Carson in a diner where she was a cook and he was a waiter. It was not long after meeting that they fell in love and married in 1957. Her humble beginnings instilled in her an incomparable resilience in which she utilized to create and provide from the simplest of means. With unwavering determination, she cultivated a home that was a sanctuary of boundless love– a place where hospitality flowed freely. Some of the best memories are our annual family reunions, time with family gathered together during Christmas, as well as coming together around the table at meal times for her good ole’ southern cookin’. Her love for feeding/nourishing, encouraging her family and friends was only surpassed by her love for their four children: David (Terri), Danny (Lisa), Renee (Pat), and Stevie (Chrissy).
She was blessed to become the Ma-ma to many loved grandkids and great grandkids who she thought were “just divine.” She would light up the moment she would start telling stories about them and they too loved the support she gave them. She cherished every phone call and every visit.. She was Ma-ma to the following grandkids: Sonya, David, Joshua, Erica, Stefan, Davy, Taylor , Lauren, Jeffrey, Michael, Alex, Christy, Nicholas, Brandy , as well as numerous great grandkids.
Delilah's legacy is one of profound love and unwavering devotion, her spirit forever illuminated by the joy of an occasional casino trip, the adventures shared with Carson, and the boundless affection she showered upon her family. Though she has departed this earthly realm, her memory will endure, a testament to a life lived in service to love and familial bonds that transcend time.
