Drexel Larry Shiver

Drexel Larry Shiver, age 94, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023. Drexel was born in Lafayette County, Florida on March 19, 1929. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 - 1949 and also in the United States Coast Guard from 1954 - 1968. Drexel earned his Master's of Education degree from the University of North Florida and taught building construction to high school students at Westside Skills Center, retiring in 1994.

Drexel was a member of the Church of God for 57 years, and was actively involved in church services and activities. He was ordained a deacon in 1979 and ordained an elder in the United Church of God in 2010.

After retirement, Drexel researched and wrote a Shiver family genealogy for his family that was over 300 pages long. He called it a "labor of love". Drexel was a student and teacher of the Bible, an avid reader of religion and history, and enjoyed gardening and playing the guitar.

Drexel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon; children Debra, Larry, and Lauren; grandchildren Donald, David, Priscilla, Annie, Stephanie, Daniel, Caitlin, and Allen; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and two brothers, Harvey and Jerry. He is preceded in death by five siblings and his son, Russel.

A funeral service for Drexel will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the funeral service will be a committal service at Riverside Memorial Park.
