Edwin E. Briggs, 81 of Jacksonville passed away on March 21, 2012 surrounded by family. Edwin is preceded by his parents Charles and Edith Briggs. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Bertie Lee Briggs; sons, Cecil Briggs and wife, Kristen; Edwin Briggs and wife, Laura; David Briggs and wife, Pat and Kenneth Briggs and partner, Scott Clark; daughters, Sylvia Lathem and husband, Earl and Karen Howell; brother, Dick Briggs and wife, Judy; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edwin was a member of 103rd Street Baptist Church. Edwin retired from the United States Air Force and is a member of the VFW Local Chapter 7909. He was a vocational teacher to the local youth and an avid hobbyist. Edwin will be remembered for his love of family, friends, gardening, and determining spirit. Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32205. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Community Hospice.
