He was graduated from the University of North Florida and was the founding member of the VMB 423 Squadron reunion, his unit in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He was honorably discharged after fighting in the Pacific. He retired from the Naval Air Station, Jax., FL.
He was the son of Charles and Beulah Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Beatrice (Rahaim) Hughes, his son Richard (Susan) Hughes, his daughter Carolyn Hughes, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday March 26, 2014 at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., Jacksonville, FL. The memorial service will be held at 10:30 am at the same address on March 27, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
