

Evelyn was a committed follower of Jesus and dedicated the majority of her adult life to serving Him in many capacities. Worshipping her Savior through music was the hallmark of her life. She sang in the choirs of Trinity Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana and First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. She worked diligently and faithfully in the music department of First Baptist Church for over 30 years until her retirement in 2013. She volunteered her time in many other areas of her church including the nursery, children’s ministry, and the single parents ministry alongside her husband. She is best known for having been a steadfast prayer warrior.
Evelyn was a talented seamstress and loved spending time outdoors tending to her yard. She was a wonderful friend to many; she left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Evelyn’s greatest source of pride was being the matriarch of a large and loving blended family.
Evelyn is predeceased by her eldest son, Don.
Evelyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Charles Joy; she also leaves behind their children-Randy, Julie, Colleen, Donna, Tim, Lisa, Jennifer, and Susan; she was an extremely proud “Nannie” to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on March 23 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Westside Baptist Church, 7775 Herlong Road, Jacksonville, FL.
A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 11:00 am at the same location with Rev. Bob Barton officiating.
A reception will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.
A graveside memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL for family and close friends.
